Welcome to the wonderful world of Reiki. Reiki is pronounced “Ray- Key” which means Universal Life Force. Rei is defined as “universal” and Ki is defined as the vital life force energy. Life force energy flows through all living organisms. Ki may also be looked at as Chinese: Chi, and India: Prana, the life energy that which keeps us alive. This energy is naturally produced from the physical body. In the practice of Reiki we learn how to become aware of this energy. As a Reiki practitioner we become more aware of the energy as it is emitted around us, from us and to us.

Reiki is a gift. A gift given to us by the universe for the purpose of healing, expressing love, and is available to those who are willing and open to learn and tap into this magical energy force. What we do with this energy once we learn and become more aware of it can be expressed to humans, plants, animals, and all living organisms. Simply put, Reiki is a natural, safe, method of intuitive healing. Reiki is there for everyone, not for a “select few”, it benefits all that receive the healing session as well as those who practice the healing method for others.

There are a number of forms of Reiki taught and practiced. All forms are good as they strive for the same goals, to promote wellness to the receiver. Reiki was discovered by a Japanese monk named Dr Mikao Usui in the mid-1800. His teaching today is known as “Traditional Reiki” (the full name is Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki). He studied these healing phenomena extensively for twenty-one-years. The sounds and symbols he discovered relate directly to the body and nervous system. He taught these teachings until his passing in 1893.

The practice of Reiki can be traced back to Tibetans from thousands of years ago. The practice went from Tibet to India and spread to Egypt, Ephesus, Greece, Rome, China and Japan.  In this course we will learn the hand positions as Dr. Mikao Usui taught them.

Some of the other forms of Reiki taught today are: Usui Reiki, the Usui System of Natural Healing, Tera Mai Reiki, Seichem, Karuna Reiki, Karuna Ki, Seichim 7 Facets, Extended Seichim Reiki, Isis Seichim, Traditional Japanese Reiki, Raku Kei Reiki, Atlantis Healing System, Radiance Technique and more. Each form is slightly different in the symbols and techniques used. All focus on the main focus of Reiki as the healing energy life force.
